Regatta Attendence Tips

Regattas:

- Bring chairs.  Quad chairs work best.

- All family members should dress for the weather.  It can sometimes be chilly and windy on the water, especially in the morning.  Once again, layers work best.  Blankets are sometimes brought.  Be prepared for unexpected rain.

- Shoes: Many sites are wet or muddy and therefore boots are commonly used.  Decorative boots for female rowers have been a previous fashion on the FC Crew club (see website for photos).

-Rowers/Coxswains - Be on time with appropriate uniform.

- Possibly bring an extra pair of socks, shirts, & shorts for your rower in case they get wet.

- Lunch will be provided for the rower and his/her family by the food committee. Exception is the Crabpot Regatta - Fun Crewz, which you are expected to bring your own lunch picnic.

-Go Green:  Bring your own refillable water bottle/thermos.  Have your rower do the same.

-Make sure your rower drinks lots of liquids the day of the regatta to avoid dehydration.

-Make sure your rower focuses on eating carbohydrates the night before and the day of the regatta (pasta parties will be scheduled).  Make sure they do not eat anything too difficult to digest.

- Crabpot Regatta - approx. $4 to enter Seashore State Park from 64th Street/limited parking/Students will be dropped off at Alanton Elementary School at 9am and picked up at same location after the regatta is completed.  The kids will run from Alanton Elementary School to the practice site and row to The Narrows and then the reverse after the regatta.

- James River - no parking fee/park at high school/moderate walk to the regatta site. You can drop off chairs and passengers, but will most likely be required to park at high school up the hill. (1/2 mile walk).

- Head of the Layfayette (Halloween Regatta)- no parking fee/limited nearby parking/moderate walking to view the race/Kids dress up as a boat (ie:  All students as one boat dress up as Indians, M&Ms, etc..). Very fun!!

- Matthews - $5 parking fee/little walking/great viewing area for races.

-Occquacon - $10(?) parking fee/possible park in upper grassy field and take a bus to the regatta site/long walk to view race depending on whether or not you want to sit in the grandstands  (The fall Occquacon Regatta will start later than normal.  Consequently, we will not block hotel rooms.  You may choose whether you want to go up the night before and stay in a hotel or drive up the morning of the regatta.  Hotel reservations are on your own.)

-Botanical Gardens - No parking fee/$8 per non-rower to enter regatta site/limited nearby parking/short to moderate walk.   You can purchase a family season pass for $85 which allows up to six people entry.

Regatta Day Schedules:  A coach will send an e-mail to the parents and rowers to inform you of the time the rower needs to be at the regatta, meeting times for coxswains, race times, and who will be rowing in each race (usually 0700-0730).  Please let a coach know if your son/daughter can not participate in a regatta.  Coaches will need to know this information as far in advance as possible prior to the regatta, so they can plan accordingly. The proposed regatta schedule is posted in multiple places.

Pasta Parties: Sign up if you are willing to host one at your house.  Rowers/Coxswains bring food and drinks.  You provide the house.  These are held the night before a regatta.
